Professional development and networking are just two of the many core values of the Youth Action Summer Internship (YASI), and through various opportunities this summer the interns fully embraced both!

One venture this summer to develop these skills was the creation and strengthening of a partnership with Seeding Equity. Seeding Equity, a Madison based non-profit, “goal is to expand access to performing arts events and theater technology training among underrepresented students” writes Kayla Huynh of The Cap Times.

“In partnership with Seeding Equity, students from the Lussier Community Education Center received the opportunity in July to see “Moulin Rouge” at no cost. Pickell and Butterworth took the students on a backstage tour of the Overture Center” she continues.

Additionally, YASI interns were able to attend “Hamilton” with Davin Pickell and Andrew Butterworth, (Seeding Equity co-founders) while in New York City for their end of the summer delegation trip. However, not only did youth attend the show, they were able to get backstage access and meet cast & crew members! A true once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Opportunities like this create the bridge for YASI youth to get up close with industries and experiences they may not have been exposed to without. The LCEC expresses its deepest gratitude to Seeding Equity for their partnership and their support in the professional development and networking skills of YASI interns.
