The Jane Burrows Buffett Scholars program supports the college aspirations of young people during the years leading up to higher education. Annually, 8th grade students will apply, and 4 are chosen based on their commitment to help others, determination to overcome hardships, and demonstrated potential to attend college. Starting in 9th grade, scholars receive intensive academic support and guidance, leadership training, assistance in planning for and applying to college, as well as funds for school supplies and self-development activities.
The Buffett Scholars program is supported by an endowment at the Madison Community Foundation and was made possible by the generosity of Bill and Jan DeAtley with additional early support from an anonymous donor. The fund was created in honor of Jane Burrows Buffett, a long-time supporter, volunteer, and advocate for the Center.
