What do you get when you put eight high-school youth and four LCEC staff in Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells? You get a standing-room-only workshop on intersectionality and privilege at the 2016 Youth Partners in Civic Leadership Conference. In other words, you get to help people understand how multiple identities (like being white, female, and college educated, but also with parents who both worked and loved to read) overlap and create experiences different from those with different identities. You get to hold space for people to expand their open-mindedness. You also get to enjoy the awesome rap skills of James, participate in lip sync and dance battles, discover connection with like-minded youth, and have some fun.

This YCPL trip is part of the LCEC’s Youth Action project, generously supported by the Madison Community Foundation and the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment.
