If you’ve spotted our shuttle filled with gleeful kids and an equally enthusiastic driver headed to the Yahara River on a warm summer day, it’s safe to assume it’s traveling courtesy of driver Bill Wambach. Each summer at the LCEC, young campers learn to canoe through our partnership with Rutabaga Paddlesports, and for the past two summers, Bill has volunteered as our official “canoe trip shuttle driver.”
Shuttling students from the LCEC’s summer camp to Rutabaga Paddlesports is certainly a unique volunteer position, but when Bill heard our request for a driver he thought he would be a good fit – and we couldn’t agree more! With an energetic spirit rivaling those of the children he transports, Bill keeps kids happy and safe before they even reach the main event.
In addition to shuttling children, Bill also transports another form of precious cargo – food! As one of our Food from Friends volunteers, Bill gleans food from local grocery stores and brings it to the Center each Friday.
Has Bill inspired you? We’re looking for another one! To learn more about volunteering as an LCEC shuttle driver, contact cristina@LCECmadison.org.
