There are few things we can count on in today’s topsy-turvy world.

But if you need a lift, I invite you to stop by the Center. Start up a conversation. Request a tour. Or simply be comforted by the buzz of afterschool arrivals, the squeal of shoes on a basketball court, the clank of dishes going back into cupboards.

Offering up steadiness in an unsteady world is why I’m here, and it’s an honor.

Maybe it’s why you’re here, too.

You understand that the LCEC’s summer camp is a vital steadying experience for young people.

It’s chock full of safe, age-appropriate activities seven hours a day, five days a week. Every opportunity is designed to unlock young people’s curiosity, joy, and mastery.

  • Paddling adventures. Science experiments. Theater workshops. College visits.
  • Plenty of fresh air, garden dirt, and nutritious meals.
  • Mindfulness exercises and quiet time with a book.
  • Relationships with friends, family, volunteers, and staff.
  • The kind of confidence and sense of belonging that grow through safe challenge and consistent support.

We raise 100% of the summer camp budget so no child is ever turned away due to cost.

Summer after summer you join neighbors and friends to make sure young people express themselves, encourage one another, and are inspired to grow.

Your $90 gift sponsors a young person’s full day of enrichment. Your $450 donation extends the adventure and learning for a full week. Your $3600 contribution secures a youth’s full eight weeks of summer growth.

Your gift today grants certainty to young people and families right as they’re making important summer decisions.

If you’re in a position to make a gift now, fantastic! You can donate by clicking here.

If today is not that day, consider other ways to contribute. Introduce a friend to the LCEC. Share your stories of visiting or volunteering. Invite a local leader to join you for community dinner.

Give the gift of steadiness we all need right now.

With appreciation,

Brian Squire, Executive Director (and former Elementary Program Manager)

PS: As Elementary Program Manager I saw the life-changing power of summer camp first‑hand. I watched young people terrified of water not only learn to canoe, but become canoe champions. Already this spring I’ve coached an aspiring baker in the fine art of focaccia. Caring adults really do shape futures. Your presence in this web of support matters.

PPS: Summer is coming fast! Young people are asking questions. Volunteers are picking shifts. Staffers are ready to dive in. I hope you’ll make your most generous gift today.
