Neighborhood Organizing Institute (NOI) is a city-wide leadership development program created for Madison-based community organizers, advocates, and grassroots leaders. Our mission is to build the capacity of local community organizers to create change in their neighborhoods, advocate for investments in grassroots leadership within marginalized communities, and to promote collaboration and coalition building within Madison’s organizing community.
NOI year-long Organizing Fundamentals Training engages a cohort of 10-12 organizers each year. Our training curriculum uses popular education, storytelling, and practical application to teach organizing and leadership skills in a culturally relevant way. NOI focuses on strategic skill building, effective base-building, and personal transformation to increase each organizer’s capacity to create social change in their communities. NOI is a learning laboratory that provides opportunities for organizers to analyze social issues in their communities and the support to think critically about community-driven solutions.
The Neighborhood Organizing Network is a mutual support network for NOI alumni and other Madison organizers.
