In 2019, planning for college is no easy task. There are universities and technical colleges to consider, scholarships and financial aid to apply for, and academics and extracurricular activities to be involved with. With so many options and so much to navigate, Ramaun and Jakobe (both incoming LCEC Buffett Scholars as high school freshmen) got a jump on their commitment to college at the 2nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. College Readiness and Success Summit.
There, future college goers attended sessions detailing the college search process, applying for financial aid, developing strong study habits, and more. High school students also interacted with a panel of current college students, for whom LCEC’s Buffett Scholars had many questions about the process of applying for college and how to finance it.
Ramaun and Jakobe additionally sought out a session focused on developing leadership skills and getting involved on campus, and another session devoted to strategies for overcoming tough times and viewing negative events positively.
Thanks to 185 families and businesses who joined the LCEC’s SOLID Circle so far, we’re doubling the size of the Buffett Scholars program, making room for four new scholars in 2019 and each year after.
